Got the star review in early cos this show is so awesome it needs an nstant 5 star rating.
At it's heart, it's a docmentary about the 7 world wonders. Each week Karl Pilkington goes to visit each one. If you don't know, Karl is a friend of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and was their producer on their radio show back in the day. Karl is basically joe average that you'd meet down the pub but has his own spin on facts and theroies of life and the world.
Where this show differs from your usual world travel documentary is that Karl doesn't want to be there, and he just doesn't get whats so amazing about any of these places... and so as a result, Gervais and Merchant have set him up to do various things that will annoy him. Like for example, when he goes to Mexico, he's sent to try Mexican Wrestling. When he's back at his hotel, he's put up in the cheapest possible places to frustrate him as much as possible. The show ends up being more of a comedy as much as it is a documentary... and above all, it shows the real world, and not just the five star hotel experience that most of these world travel shows do.
Near the end of the series is also quality when he gets a phone call from Gervais telling him that Sky wants to do a second series, and he goes off on a massive rant telling them basically where to stick it..... series 2 starts the end of september lol.
Can't recormend this series enough really. I never watch documentaries or travel programs, cos i think they talk down to you, but this quickly because my fav program of all time.
