If you are unsure about keeping passwords safe you can use Keepass or something of the sort.

This will enter your password and save all passwords for you, it'll also encrypt your passwords when saved.

Yes we were not the only ones.
Luckily Blizzard rolled back my chars for me so got stuff back.
Passwords changed, malicious software removed computers ;)

can't believe that they make you pay for the security of your accounts. Especially if your a wow player. it's like pay subscription and then pay for authenticator, then suppose they'd take a cut from the SMS service, unless the txt's are free, which i doubt.

amazed they are fobbing people off with an advertisement.

you'd think one of the biggest gaming companies out there could afford decent security

Having malware/antivirus on your PC - Free.
Making a strong password - Free.

Hate against WoW, Diablo, all things Blizzard and the sun shining out of NCSofts arse? - Free also.

authenticator is like £11 on amazon, assumed SMS isn't free for what your sending for support, but yeah obviously it'll be free for what they send you. Didn't say the app wasn't free but heh, i ain't buying a phone that can use apps just so that i can use a service that (in the case of WoW) i'm paying for anyway. Nothing like that is free, the subscription fee for WoW will cover their costs for the app, people who use games that aren't covered by the subscription fee but get app alerts are therefore laughing.

but yeah agree with thal that a strong password and anti-virus etc is free and should be used, just don't get why they aren't pushing this as opposed to the other services. The statement they released gives no information to players, it's one big "well why didn't you use these services we already have?", there's no "we're working to fix the problem"... more like "we've known there's a problem for years, get used to it, we have".

Also whats NCSoft got to do with anything? whoever said they're a good company

But keeping it on topic, Blizzard push client security if you read their acctuall webpage for accout n security they recomend several free antivirus and malware solutions. Unfortunatally(lol?)they don't yet own the world and the ball is in the players court. So assuming a player is unwilling or unable to keep that end of the chain safe they have added another solution, by adding another layer of security on another platform(if the pc is comprimised then no point having it on that device) many people have smart phones so that was an obvious place and their own device for people who do not have such a phone and still want the added security. Both of which are totally optional.

As for their pushing of that solution well it's a company selling stuff is what they do it's in their intrest to keep your account secure firstly to keep the players happy and secondly to reduce the workload of their support staff.
