kewl i should be back in around then and finally have mumble up and running again, might try making a new character as well but i spend to much time making them cos so many options to play about with :D

any idea what race your going to play. At the moment there's only Human, Norn (large humans) and Charr (large agressive dog like people). Eventually there will be Silvari (Short Plant People) or Asura (Intelligent Midget Beastlike People with Big Ears), but they not in this version of the beta.

Race just depends on starting area really, and they are all pretty much linked at the start. Though i've only really played through the Charr area, i've read that that is the more difficult of the 3 starting areas, but has the highest population of players.... but it may have been balanced more since the last beta.

Starting areas are basically...

Charr = Industrial/War based with human ghosts and various beasts
Human = Typical Farmlands/Towns style bandits and centaurs
Norn = Mountains/Winter, not really sure the type of bad guys around there.

tbh i haven't a clue, i tried GW1 but didn't like the control system of click to move. So i didn't get very far. i haven't even looked into the lore. hopefully i can get engrossed in it form the out. If i like it though ill be buying it.
seems though from what little i have heard that the Charr are a popular race. But at heart i'm a long range caster type, wether that will work well or not i dunno, i always seem to be drawn to the necro/warlock/mage types and love having a pet i can send in and take a bit of flack off me. Suppose id better start at least looking around the races whilst i wait for the beta to start up

tbh, races don't matter in terms of profession cos all get the same skills and such... well apart from the ranger maybe (bow and arrow class) as you select your pet to start off with and the pet you start with depends on your race... though you can have 3 (i think) pets at once and change your n00b pet for something else. almost right away.

Though i've not tested it, and it might be fixed now but apprently pet AI is bugged, but thats only Ranger pets. There's 5 professions that have pets thats I'm aware of.

Ranger - Standard Pets, but you can also have water based pets like Sharks etc for underwater combat.
Elementalist - They get a summoning type pet that is based on an element, like Fire or whatever
Necromancer - undead pets, I've only seen flesh constructions though, same as GW1... i want skeletons :(
Engineer - Technically speaking, a sentry gun is a pet, they just don't move, but they have flame throwers and such.
Mesmer - Also technically speaking, the mesmer makes illusions that fight enemies, kinda like disposable pets

The Ranger is the only one though that'll have skills and stuff that allows you to make a build centred around pets.
Necromancer does look to have some kewl effects though for it's skills

guess ur a human :D

didn't get chance to visit the forums or would have answered. The gathering stuff can be done by anyone, you jus need to buy the right tool from the merchant and put it on your hero panel in the correct slot. Different levels of them are for different skill level areas.

some stuff you have to salvage though, depends on your crafting profession, though they are interchangable and you retain your progress in them when changing.

wasted all my money doing chef based stuff :( and got to a point where i can't gain any more xp it in without experimenting in ingredients.

i got there eventually with the crafting and gathering, think im sold.
Had a norn lvl12 thief which was really fun apart from the being in the middle of 50 people all trying to dps and not die, no lag though.
And i rolled a lvl12 human elementalist, God thats one huge city....and she was more my play style. And she had a nice ass and big boobs which always help
