Notts Forest keeper Peter Shilton practsied for European Cup Final on a Madrid roundabout By Oliver Holt 27/05/2009

Read Oliver Holt's column every Wednesday on Mirror.co.uk

There's a tale in 150 BC, the brilliant new collection of short stories about Brian Clough, where the manager of Nottingham Forest tells goalkeeper Peter Shilton to go and practice his shot-stopping - on a Madrid roundabout - the day before their European Cup Final against Hamburg.

I kept an eye out for Edwin van der Sar at the traffic island near the Colosseum yesterday, but he never turned up.
