Basically I downloaded some episodes I went to play the first one witch hadn’t loaded properly e.g it didn’t have a little picture. My computer went crazy and said windows has a critical error save your work you are about to be logged off and my computer shuts down. Every time I log on even to my other administrator account or even
Guest account it does the same and switches off within 1 minute of logging in. The only way I can access my computer is to run in safe mode without networking. So I was wondering if I could wipe my computer in safe mode, I don’t have any anti virus stuff as I was about to download some after the episodes. I am running windows vista and I am prepared to change my os for windows xp as I don’t have the disk for vista. i have tried system restore etc and i managed to get it working by stop launching some programmes but i lost all my drivers and managed to get all of them back apart from the network driver well i have some but no the right one cause its not working once i get the network running i can fix my computer
Any help is greatly thanked

network-wise, is it the drivers you need for windows, or to install your router on your computer? as was thinking that if it's your router, there might be a factory reset button somewhere on it that you have to push with a pin, and then it might activate the drivers when it tries to start from a fresh. i think the bt home hub does this as i recall, not sure about others.

i suppose you could always try taking out your network card as well. boot up the computer so it thinks it doesn't have one, then put it back in and boot up again so that it think's it's found new hardware and attempts to install drivers.

also, i assume your doing that msconfig thing i suggested in the etf2l thread you made and stopped some programs launching that way. are you sure you've not disabled your network drivers by doing that. i'm not actually sure you can do it that way, but maybe thats a reason

anyway :D if none of that works, i'm out of ideas and it's probably best for ned to post ideas if he can help :D

I could reformat my vista OS to factory settings by spamming f11 on my hp screen on boot then selected return the pc to factory settings (this works without the disc). Didn't know it was possible until microsoft and hp helped me out. xD

hp has a different key from everyone else, i noticed it at work as we only use hp kit.
if you had disk you could use the system file verification which just changes any core files back to factory.
Sounds like registry is currupt tbh so even in safe mode you could run a reg program if u dl from a diff pc.
without seeing it for myself its a bit hard to diagnose. detailed error reports are the best, have you checked the log files?

You could always chuck it out the window and see if that fixes it :)
