Wired less portable for laptops messy when wires are tangled. But more reliable and faster for downloading or playing live Multiplayer games. And it will avoid being cut off at anytime.
Wireless, okay that are good when you are in a tent or out in the conservatory in the sun IMing. Even useful for using your portables like your Nintendo DS and iPhone. But Wireless could lead to death from the exposed gamma rays which are more hazardous than mobile phones, that may mutate the cells and cause tumours (I'm scared and hate death!)

I use wired all over the house. Got a router with 4 outlets, which give us access to the internet at every place we need it. This means we can have laptop/PC in the lounge, laptop/pc/xbox in bedrooms, etc

It was a bit of work sorting out the wires, but now they are done, it allows for stable internet throughout the house
( plus QoS settings mean I always get the most bandwidth to my PC/xBox

)

i have a straight wired modem but run gigabit ethernet through linux firewall/router and use a dual aerial signal boosted access point for my laptop so i never had it drop and i do even play mir on it but wouldnt really play tf2 or anything on it (specially as my laptop doesnt have good grafix).
There is no contest tbh with wired vrs wireless, you want long latency and no packet loss then used wired, you want to surf in bed then use wireless.
