Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

This anime is based on the manga (comic) Fullmetal Alchemist, and quite francly, it's awesome. Just over 60 episodes long, it has a rich and deep storyline that is worthy of any live action TV series or film.... don't let the cartoony presentation of it fool you, in Japan, Manga (Graphic Novels) are big business... this ran 10 years, 1 issue produced every month, and it's oozes quality.
The background of it is set around the late 1800's and Alchemy is possible via transmutation circles. The laws of equivilent exchange apply, with a number of taboo's, with the biggest of them being bringing the dead back to life. The two main characters tried this in order to bring their dead mother back to life and paid the price. One lost an arm and leg, and the other lost his entire body, and all they created was a mound of rotting flesh. The one that loses his body had his soul bonded to a suit of armour in order to stop him from disappearing, and now the two brothers search for a way to get their bodies back.
Sounds far fetched yes, but what fiction doesn't these days.
Why is this series good though? While the two brothers try to find a way to get their body parts back, it sends them into a world of mystery and a plot to overthrow the government. As they dig deeper and deeper, whats happening to the country gets bigger and bigger. If you like your plots polictical, with a hint of fantasy/action, then this is for you.
Not much else i can say really without giving the plot away, though most look down on anime and see it as just another cartoon, but if you can see past the fact that it's animation, then give Fullmetal Achemist Brotherhood a try.
I give this 10 grinning smileys out of 10, cos you can't get much better when it comes to anime
