TF2 Update

there's a few changes to TF2, i'll try and update the server as well, but never done it before, so we'll see how that goes ;), maybe i'll leave it to ned ;) but will have a look at it in a few mins :D

anyway, here's the changelog...
Fixed team switches on Attack/Defense maps spamming the console

Fixed the Kritzkrieg not working on servers with crits turned off

Fixed some clipped localized strings in various in-game dialogs

Fixed several cases where files were synchronously loaded while the game was running

Fixed a shutdown crash in the material system

Cached rendering of item model panels to improve performance, in particular while weapon selection was visible

Added a gear symbol behind the health bar for Engineer buildings, in both target IDs and freeze panels

Players killing themselves will now give a kill credit to the last enemy who damaged them

Fixed grenades, rockets, and flamethrower being able to fire through grates at round starts

Fixed players being killed and creating ragdolls during team switches

Fixed various exploits and performance problems in CP_Badlands, CP_Well, and CP_Fastlane

Removed health bonus from the Backburner

sounds like a few annoying changes have been fixed, like shooting through gates for one... i hated that one :S. Plus backburner has been made weaker, since you don't get as much health now, but does it still force crits?? i dunno, but i don't think so, as it says "Fixed the Kritzkrieg not working on servers with crits turned off"... i get the impression that it means that the kritz will now force you to crit even if the server doesn't allow crits... which is why i've seen WPTF2L say that the kritzkrieg is now banned in WPTF2L matches.... not that anyone uses it anyway, but can be powerful in matches if 1 has normal uber and another has kritz.

well anyway, my updating seems to be taking ages... dunno if loads are trying it at once or something, but seems to be a large update, so get it done ;)

i ran the update in the icebox and match server. both should be fully working, but will likely need testing at some point by ppl trying to fill them tonite ;)

just to confirm... the kritzkreg now indeed does force crits on no crit servers. so i get the impression that this is the intent by valve, and therefore the backburner and axetingusiher are supposed to crit ppl on no crit servers... makes no sense to me, but don't expect this to get fixed by valve soon, cos i don't think they consider it as a broken system.

tbh, keep a lookout for something like the TF True plugin (or whatever it was) to reappear, to stop this... as it was that plugin that almost forced valve to start making it so there could be no crit servers. Personally, i don't see the point in having a "no crit server" if it allows crits

if kritzkreig didn't give crits on no-crits servers, what would be the point of it?
ditto axetinguisher and backburner (especially since backburner doesn't give you extra health now)

I suppose it's giving leagues/ladders the _option_ to use them on no-crit matches; if they don't want them they can just say "no kritzkreig / no backburner" in their rules.

So for matches which go total no-crit, no-one used to take kritzkrieg coz there was no point; now they'll not take it becuase it's banned
And for matches that go down the "crits allowed from special weapons" route, kritzkreig now works like the pyro ones

not saying there should or shouldn't be a point to it, i'm just saying "No-Crit" should mean "No-Crit" and not "No-Crit unless you use a certain weapon"

kritzkreig still heals, and as i recall, it heals at a faster rate (unless that was changed), and all weapons do something extra other than just giving crits.

There should be an option to have either "All Weapons Have a Chance to Crit", "Only Unlocks Can Crit" or "No Crits"... not a combination of several. Hell, might be interesting to have a "100% Crits" mode for servers, where all weapons crit.

The whole reason the custom tab on the server browser was added was so people could specficially play on no crit servers, or fast spawn servers, as many people hate crits, or slow spawning, and the whole reason valve added the no crits mode because there was such a huge demand for it. League will likely soon be requiring some kind of TFTrue plugin to be used on servers for matches again, and then valve will make proper no crit servers again, because they'll see high demand for it because of plugins being used. Now the TFTrue plugin is no longer required, people have taken it off servers, so valve think ppl aren't to bothered about no crit servers these days :/

If those unlockable weapon features did something simple, like cause double damage, or something like that, without it being a crit... like the spies backstab and sniper's full charge... then i doubt people would have that much of a problem with them, but it says crit and doing a crit when crits are supposed to not be available is just retarded. Then people go on to moan about stuff being bugged on pyro because he doesn't only crit from the back... even though he can fire crits as normal from any position, due to the same random chance any class has....... it all causes more problems that it solves tbh.
