FAO ned... server configs

all servers have now been updates, and both servers have been full(ish) at one point or another, hell, me and thal noticed that two guys were keeping the icebox going on the dm maps with a straight 1v1 until like 3am :D

anyway, we all noticed that changing to the arena maps results in the server name getting edited etc, and so i had a look at the config files.

with the update, the new config file "config_arena.cfg" has been inserted. this suggests to me that you can now have your own config for every map prefix, and so you could say have a config_ctf.cfg which would run once a ctf map is run. i'm unsure, but all i know is that when we changed map to an arena map, the default config editted itself.

i have also noticed in the new config that there is a new command that reads...

mapcyclefile "arena_mapcycle.txt"

this changes the mapcycle so that the relevent file is used as the default mapcycle, and thus only arena maps are played. I added the new mapcycle command the server.cfg file, as it does not return the mapcycle to normal if you run another map... however, i don't know if we need to make a "config_cp.cfg" so that it is auto booted up if a map is changed to a cp map.... i'm unsure as to how that works overall.

I more or less editted the config_arena.cfg file to be similar to that of the server.cfg, just with the default config_arena.cfg stuff left in... i left the default file in the cfg folder listed as "Copy of config_arena.cfg". Please would you check these out to see that they are in order and if any other commands need adding. I dunno what the commands are or anything for arena mode, but it would be better to change it to 3 straight wins = 1 team point. Also i think i editted it so that arena maps are played for 15mins, instead of 30mins, as they do get a little tiresome if played for longer, especially on the smaller layout ones.

For the match server, i put it into 24/7 arena mode to see how it goes promoting cic :D. arena mode looks to be popular already.... but that may be just because it's new, but well, i think i have all the feedback i'm going to get as concerns my monkey map, so i've no problem with that not being the servers only map :D

for map voting etc, the following maps need to be added....

pl_badwater
cp_steel
arena_lumberyard
arena_ravine
arena_badlands
arena_granary
arena_well

all of which are new standard maps. i dunno how to add this to the mod, so i figured i'll let you do it ned and save me fucking up the server :D

i editted the main mapcycle slightly so as to put some of those maps early on the list, mixing together with the old faithful :D. valve replaced the old version :(, but i think it's backed up as a copy, so can replace to the old version if required.

Due to the nature of the match server (no voting) i have stabalised the modes.
mapcyclefile "arena_mapcycle.txt"
servercfgfile "config_arena.cfg"
This makes the exec arena_config.cfg stick.
I have done something similar to the server.cfg to put it back into 24/7 monkey mode.
You can run prefix modes but tbh shouldnt include changing map cycles (it can affect voting modes on the ice-box).

If we are thinking of running some arena mode on the match server i dont think it will suit the ice-box too well as it could affect the admin mod.
I will add the maps to the vote but FYI

//used with LoadMapsFromFile
bm_MapListFileName "maplist.txt"

ie mapcycle does the none voted rotation but maplist is where the votes come from.
Added new maps to vote left your map cycle as is (doesnt matter as votes tend to take the cycle).

So to sum up:
Match Server: has permenant modes which switch and stick on (cus of no voting)
Public Server: has temporary modes as it has a vote which can bypass any config driven mapcycle due to it having a full maplist for votes.

something seems messed up with the configs, as when we put the new pl map on, it ran the achievement map config, changing the server name and time limit to 99999 :S. Also it added the arena's as the default server mapcycle. Looks like the default server.cfg has gone to the achievement one.

new map seems better to advertise cic with though, as it's not like unlimited spam in the chat area and it filled the server pretty instantly. Also the achievement maps seem pointless, as it's just ppl constantly killing the other team that spawns, which if you on the constantly getting killed side, it's gonna piss you off with the server, so not a great advert for the clan :(

trying to fix it now, but can't see really what to do. all i have done is set the arena mode's time limit to like 10-12 mins, as 30mins starts to get boring. This is only on the icebox though, as the match server is still the achievement map, though should really adjust that time limit thing also as it will maybe become more popular with regular map changes

dont know why arena configs shouldnt be working.
todays stats from achievement, considering server is normally empty during day:
IcEBoX - almost 1,500
Match - Over 2,000 and still going

Was a 1 day event as all the servers running this map were full, i ran it and within 10 minutes both were full.

Will look at arena configs later

think only full because it's an achievement map on a dedicated server, and not a home computer like normal, which lags, therefore we'll always be top of the list.

thing is though, achievement maps don't work when it's more than 8 people servers, as it's just 1 big spam fest. i went on it and ppl just sat at the resup lockers, and just spammed everyone who spawned. only had a high turn over of players because people got pissed off and left, which let new people in. This also resulted in the chat area being spammed constantly, with all chat being missed off. I was trying to tell people to join forums, add server to favourite and join irc, but it just wasn't working because it went off screen in a matter of miliseconds. If people could actually do achievements, they'd have stayed on server and read the messages, made it seem like a half decent place and worked as a better advertisement, but as it stands, for every 12 people on one team, probably ten or twenty times that amount connected and disconnected because they got pissed off at the server, and as a result, can't really work well as an advertisement, because most people leave pissed off at the server. They wanted to join to do achievements, but was greated by death.

also, dunno how to fix it, but instant spawn has been left switched on.

i also discovered that the config only properly changes if you run the config yourself, and then change the map, otherwise the map cycle stays the same as the previous config and alters the way the server runs.

checked configs and did a redirect of the cfg's on each so should be ok now, was missing 1 line to stop calling the cfg.

kewlio, ty

i might edit the config slighty, well add to it, not edit, this is because the win limit needs fiddling with, as steel and badwater suddenly end half way through a round otherwise... either that or remove the win limit altogether.?

also i found a few arena based commands to make it more enjoyable, so i'll add them to the arena config.

Also ned, could you add the heavy limit to like 3 again, and whatever other limits there were on classes. i can't find the command or where to set them, and with so many heavys, it's just getting lame :D
