I was just exploring something to do during my study gap of October -> February tonight, and stumbled upon something I heard rumours about last year but never looked in to.. edX!
Basically, edX is free online education offered by 3 Universities in America: MIT, Harvard and Berkely. The courses are offered online and globally, if I remember correctly, this is a 4-8 year programme to investigate free education and the selling of education world wide and online for them.
They've currently got 7 courses available, mainly computer related, although there is also Intro's to Chem, Electronics, AI and Health Research.
I thought this would be potentially interesting to some of us here who have a lot of free time, if they wanted to look in to some things a bit more. The website is http://www.edx.org if people are interested.
Just as an FYI, for anyone interested in the Comp Sci, there are two on their site and I've signed up to https://www.edx.org/courses/HarvardX/CS50x/2012/about ; as I've been told it is more useful being that it is lead by current/recent leavers and is likely to be more up to date than the MIT one controlled by guys in their 60's, and actually looks at a lot more than the MIT one.
If anyone else does sign up to that, let me know, as I need to complete it by February, I'll be starting it asap and can pass ideas back and forth.
