Hi all, just a couple of thoughts, i wondered what folks thoughts are on making a server rule where everyone has to be in a server wide group and its everyone's duty to invite new players to the group? Have seen it on a server before.
Point in hand - there were 2 incidents tonight of friendly fire with the same 2 parties involved, things got a little heated then got sorted out but i can't help but feel that everyone on the server being in said group would have eliminated that friendly fire, and indeed prevent any further episodes as it can be tough to distinguish ai from players sometimes, especially if they (ai) are in a vehicle.... and the name tag above your head thing is not clear or reliable enough sometimes imo.
Another option would be to limit the uniforms ai wear, and the vehicles they use (which i have also seen on other servers) to that of non player usable ones and making them unique, but that takes time to edit the ai configs. Anyway just throwing it out there to see what your thoughts are
there are multiple groups at any given time on the server which could make it tricky to manage.
I have been looking into a better way of preventing friendly fire and we do have a name tag system for 800m if you put your crosshairs over a target.
I will look into something else to help.
maybe change the color of the name tag of players to red that are mnot in a party with bold letters, at the moment they are white and I also almost took a shot at tower today thinking he was a AI but at the last secound the name came up.
As far as I know, AI do only have access to certain vehicles unless they are part of a mission.
But yeah, it doesn't really help that some of the roaming AI are specifically designed to look like exile players.
Im not saying remove them, but in a previous server that I played on there was a script they used that meant that you literally couldn't inflict damage on other players in a pve server, however there were issues with it with vehicles because you can still damage vehicles when people are in them, and when they blow up the player inside is killed by suicide.
On my old epoch server i edited all my ai to wear 1 of 3 uniforms i defined them to wear and also picked a crappy car and heli that they would use for land patrols (removed from traders) it gives the feeling that the ai are all part of one enemy force trying to get you and not just a mish mash of random player'alikes, also looks cleaner imo.
At first i started simple, i gave them all yellow crash helmets haha, something distinctive so you knew ai right away. In the end i made them all wear berets and as i said, one of the pre defined uniforms.(i left weapons, loot and bags alone) I have seen some servers give all the ai taliban/terrorist type uniforms which also isnt bad
i may look at this when i have time but we are using several AI systems and they don't all align the same east/west and i think it takes some of the skill out the game and we end up with a console version of Exile "on rails".
The whole idea of seeing movement and working out if its AI or player, having all AI dressed in red jump suits- driving around in one red Volvo or red heli
really doesn't appeal and we are trying to make the game more messy if anything so AI fight with each other and the island is being invaded by opportunists not just one side, and also i don't just want Taliban/Muslim bad guys as that's not something i am comfortable with, you should be able to kill any colour or religion in Exile.
I am more inclined to dress AI appropriately for whatever the mission is

Of course mate its your server, you set the tone of the island as you see fit.... im not trying to tell you what to do, an just offering an opinion/option of something i have seen over the years and somethings thats stood out to me as a nice feature that someone took time to do. Sorry if i pissed anyone off with the idea.

The idea was a reasonable one based on what you have seen elsewhere, so please do not be disheartened.
Ned was simply making clear that no matter what the worldwide issues are, on the server we want to remain neutral and have anyone feel comfortable.

i would really want lots of ninja's
suggestions are always welcomed and i take on board what we agree is a good thing and i am not precious about the server, its just a matter of priority as there's only really me coding the server with some mapping help from Prad and Frankie so i do what i can and when i can.
Theming the missions and Ai in general more is a good idea and i will do what i can, some things are trickier than others though as the different AI systems don't always give you the ability to match between them so i will do my best
keep the ideas coming as i like to not have to imagine everything myself all the time as i run out of ideas regularly
All good guys, i dont care what they look like really, im just happy to have found a great server with great folks, and if i have anymore ideas i will share them
