but yeah, valve would do a bigger build up to release their game, not just a... "btw it's released next week". They'd be doing game deals for pre-orders on steam at the very least, so 2011 i can see that happening

just remembered that E3 starts June 14th, so it's not actually an advertisement for the release of the game, it's an advertisement for the promotional stuff being released for the game, and a release date will probably happen during that.

I also read somewhere that valve have said that there will be no Ep3 in 2010.
