CiC started because a friend of mine known as Lovemoose showed me the brand new halflife game which we played in the studio where i was working. We had just got telewest cable tv at home and we bought the internet (dialup) from them. It was charged by the minute as was nearly every dialup at the time. it cost me a fortune.
The trouble was that at the time CableInet only ran Quake games and most of the time you were trying to find lower ping games (used to be an average of about 350 ping) so i posted on the internal newsgroup at cableinet asking for some tfc servers. 2 guys from their tech team agreed to my request and as one was in charge of the newsgroup server we also suddenly had a tfc newsgroup, but it was only available to cableinet customers, on there a few people gathered TranceD, NBG, Taz and myself agreed to play together and as we were on cableinet we went with CIC, a guy called Tepic got us on to IRC and even the cableinet guys came and joined in.
After a vote (which i lost!) we changed to CiC (yes it was a vote about the capital I). We kept CiC fairly exclusive due to using the newsgroup which only some people could access.
Over the next 12 months a few changes happened which really allowed CiC to move forward,
1. Surf unlimited - a flat fee per month and no charges per minute for inet access allowed us to play loads more tfc
2. Cableinet changed name to Blueyonder - we decided not to change names (another clan tried BYC to grab our sponsorship but failed)
3. Cable modems got released and we all had 30 pings - i think Brucie then wandered off to DL loads of pr0n from this time.
From the side of troubles down the years some big events happened which were tough to get through
1. BY decided to start the rent a server idea and CiC had loads of admins and really tried to throw the clan into it, but it didnt quite work and BY shut down all its servers and service and really killed part of the community of TFC in the UK.
2. The BY staff inside CiC got in trouble for playing games and backed off and couldnt help any more.
3. Barrysworld went down along with UKTFCL
4. Wireplay got split up with BY and multiplay and by the time BY went Wireplay was left with a few old servers and little community.
5. Demon stopped supporting some leagues and lost public servers
6. Cheats ruined CS 1.6 and people gave up trying to play as it was annoying to be headshot 1 second into a round and waiting 5 minutes for it to be done again.
7. the biggest ladders went under - MORAT and another which i forget atm
8. CiC played quite a few things and source didnt include tfc update as initially promised
9. Steam took over from WON and was dodgy as hell in the early years
loads more happened that i cant remember any more, but the timescale on these major things was about 18 months.
during this time a few things happened inside the clan
1. fewd broke out between oldskool and newskool CiC
2. CiC won some stuff and people buggered off to prem clans
3. leadership changed hands several times as people crumbled under the pressure
4. my pc broke for 2 months and i couldnt afford to be online (just as steam started hence why i only have a 6 digit steam id not 4)
CiC survived using a few ideals which we stick to
1. always give nubs time and help, they will turn up asking to join eventually - we were known for always giving tips and tricks on servers while not being assholes.
2. recruiting was always an option and sometimes we recruited pretty much the entire squad no matter what level they were at, so we ended up winning div6, div5, div2, div5 as we were prepared to adjust our level at any time and not worry about it.
3. people who left to play with other clans still hung around the community and often rejoined for the fun of the clan - hence why CiC became the "hotel california" of clans.
4. being family friendly (on the whole) kids of players ended up joining after their parents left
5. we never throw away members and people can go part time and come back to play once they have time.
it has been tough sometimes not to call it a day but it always felt more like home and so either myself or people we got in the clan managed to hold it together long enough to ride the storms.
Its always been nice to see people suddenly return on mumble or forums after years of silence and see them get re-involved and settle back into a familiar family having fun and taking the piss like they never left.
I think in the end i continue to pursue CiC as a clan and home is eventually you have invested so much time, effort and money into it that you cant just let it go easily, so i continue here as much as i can after all what else is there to do ?
I still believe that online is just as good as irl and after playing 1000's of matches in loads of different games, admining servers and reffing matches i have come into contact with 100,000's of people from all over the planet, winning, losing, drawing; CiC has provided me more entertainment, joy and laughter (ok some really huge pains in the ass) that it is all worth while and stopping would be harder than giving up crack.
long answer but hope it about answers it all. last Q pls

Re: Ask away
apparently she wanted him to cure her of love sickness, and the other 2 (a) always go along with the croud and (b) did it to shut her up
realistically she actually wanted them to introduce her to me!

Re: Ask away
Well ill tell you.
I moved into a shared house in 2004 where i eventually met siege (he lived in the room downstairs)
Eventually realised we both fancied each other *giggle* and after a night of cheap cider alcopops and everything else we kinda just went from there, I asked siege out orginally and he said ask me in a week....i did.....the rest is history really.
What possessed me...i dont know!!! He probably thinks the same thing lol.
I nominate Brucie
