Re: The "Uber" Update
meet the medic and tf2 free to play. well its been a while in the comming but last they talked about f2p they said that the amount of cheaters it would bring would not be worth it, guess thats changed eh. Apart from that can only be good for tf2.

Re: The "Uber" Update
it's only free to play for a week though? or at least thats what i read. Same as doing the free weekend stuff that comes with the major updates, plus it's the time of year when alot are off school, so perfect time to try and get them playing all week

Re: The "Uber" Update
ah i read this on the day 1 update...
http://www.teamfortress.com/freetoplay/faq.php
there's more in there but here's a small bit thats relevent to us...
Also there is a price value of TF2 still.... whatever you paid is how much you paid for your Proof of Purchase Hat.
which would still be in effect, however they have done a free account and premium account thing...All that hanging out with mob guys must have rubbed off on us, because we've decided to celebrate the Über Update by giving you an offer you can't (or at least shouldn't) refuse--an unprecedented WEEK-LONG FREE WEEKEND of Team Fortress 2, starting right now!

gah! tbh, i don't play TF2 much as it is, but was considering getting back into it at some point, but now this has put me right off. You don't need a steam ban to get banned in ETF2L for cheating, and you don't need hundreds of accounts just to bypass a ban in a competitive league, just the ability to convince someone to let you join their team.Q. How does Free-to-Play affect existing users?
It doesn’t. You can keep enjoying TF2 as you have before, with all the features and content you’ve come to expect from TF2.
Q. What do I get if I paid for the game?
To thank you for your years of support, we will be giving players who have purchased TF2 a special Proof of Purchase hat to wear on any character in-game.
Q. Won’t going Free to Play mean more griefers and cheaters?
We’re increasing our focus on making sure that hostile players can’t ruin your fun. Specifically, we’ll be keeping a close eye on players exploiting the ability to make infinite free accounts to bypass bans. We’ve built systems that’ll allow us to measure and track what these players are doing, and respond quickly.
