Game: Skyrim

Post by Thaldarin »

All I can say is I never play RPGs, I didn't like the last game that much. However Skyrim has eaten my life over the weekend and will eat my week off. It's singleplayer only so you warez lot out there that don't like buying games, it's been cracked and hacked to hell but I hope you'd buy it. It is dependent on Steam even if you buy retail.

Edit: I forgot the command but someone add max stars pls.

:3.0:

only 3 stars for me because...

of all the stupid lame bugs that have been programmed into the game that make gameplay extremely annoying at times. For every Elder Scrolls game, they fuck up the hud even more, especially the inventory, the morrowind version was fine.

Anyway, bugs i mean is like how they have the tool tip like things that tell you what button to press to do certain things... however these don't update if you change controls even slightly. Wouldn't be so bad but there is no "Drop Item" button to change control to, instead it's your "Ready Weapons" button that controls dropping, though there is nothing that tells you this. If like me you have side buttons on your mouse, and like the vast majority of players with side buttons, you like to have your ready weapons button on the side of your mouse... this will disable your ability to drop items.

Also, when i first ran Skyrim, it rest my deathadder mouse from desktop several times randomly, freezing up the game while it did it. I could tell it was doing this because i have my deathadder lights disabled... it was switching them on and offer in various patterns randomly while the computer made the disabled hardware noises.

Also, though my computer is capable of running the game in high settings and the game automatically set these settngs for me, it actually made it so that clickable options ingame didn't work. I had to use keys to toggle options. Once i turned the anti alaising settings down though, it worked fine after restarting the game.

Also the sensitivity mouse settings are retarted. The up and down axis are much heavier to control that the left and right axis. It's supposed to make it more realistic i suppose but it's just plain annoying as the view controls just seem stiff. This also effects non-view controls like in menu's. Dunno why you need to have slower up and down mouse movements while in menu's, but heh, you do apprently. My senstivity controls are set to max and it still feels heavy.

Also the way magic now works is totally messed up. It's like you better hope you want to be a non-magic based character, because there's no way to toggle the magic you use anymore, you need to keep stopping the game to select the magic you want to the individual hand you want to use it with.

There's much more as well, but all that being said, it's a great game once you get past the shit that's come from an obvious console port of the game. I've enjoyed it how i've found a fort and killed off all the bandits in there and claimed it unofficially as my residence, just wish i could fill it with npc's as that would be kewl. I would give it a 5 star rating, but it's undeserved due to the crap they've shipped the game with just so they could meet their 11/11/11 release date.

yeah worth getting.

It'll be one of those games you can really test your gfx card on to see the quality you can get, also it's a really good game that is more of a sandbox game cos you can do what you want on it without it forcing you to do anything. Once you get past the bugs, it's a great game, as i said, would definately give it 5 stars if not for the things that annoy me about some hud based stuff and comparisons to earlier versions, but it really is just like comparing TFC to TF2... both are great games and the earlier version was the best, but things need to move on.

It's a massive game world and there's much to explore. In one town i have a house and am well liked by the people because I killed a few dragons in the surrounding villages, but in one city i saw a guy about to be executed and tried to get on the stage for a closer look... which made the guards attack me and put a massive bounty on my head cos they thought i was trying to save him, now everyone in the surrounding area attacks me there :D ... So you can be the type of player who is loved in one area and hated in another, doesn't have to be one or the other.

You can reach level 30 and be finished if you're a bore like me.

Although you love to explore ned from what I remember, so this will keep you entertained for 100+ hours.

Got to say this game is great fun. I started off in the first 10 minutes following the main story line, then before i knew it I'm chasing deer through the forest in a Homer Simpson esk way with my trusty bow for 2 hours, running into wolfs, Giants, and bandits on the odd occasion. 3 hours later you have forgot what the fook was your focus in the first place!

So you meander back to town to pick up on the main plot when you realise you have 30 assorted animal skins in your inventory. OOOh you spot the blacksmiths that has the tools to turn your fur into leather, which then in turn you can manufacture some hide armour, which seems to level your blacksmithing pretty rapidly!! So 25 pairs of Hide Bracers later and you NEED MORE LEATHER!!!! Look out Cave bears your azz is mine!

Next thing you know its 3 days later and your too busy retracing your steps on the 'I was pissed up last night and done bad stuff' quest' that again you completly forget the main vein of quests!

In other words, whatever you choose to do in this game, and at what pace is up to you. I highly recommend it for everyone even non RPG players. Oh and the game looks fooking awesome too!

I liked the weapon you get from that pissed up quest :D. Also liked the Dawnbreaker weapon that you get from some random quest i forget where it is, but it's a shame you can't keep upgrading it past a certain point, even though i maxed out my smithing and then some with the aid of enchantments :(
