tl;dr? here's a few points worth noting....
1, The game itself is ready to go into "alpha" status, however the muliplayer networking framework etc isn't, making multiplayer unplayable, and once thats ready the alpha is released. while the people responsible for that are working on it, others are making the game better.
2, the original DayZ map, Charnaus (sp?) is being extended massively...
it's different than the Origins map, so it'll all be new to us.40km² in the north and ~25km² in the west
3, Systems are being added to help reduce the need to kill other players on sight. one is that equipment can degrade and break, and it'll damage more if you shoot it, or someone carrying it.
4, you can't just carry packs of blood around now... you need something to keep it cool or it goes off, also players have a blood type now, so you need to find a testing kit to find out what blood type you are, or you could kill urself when getting a blood transfusion. Also they say that now only other players can give you blood transfusions... guess that was something Origins added, anyway, sounds like it's the choice of the giver who gives the blood, so you could give people blood posioning

5, weapon crafting will be possible, with addons
6, it's going to be possible to do unarmed melee
