well we have had Epoch going for 6 months and now i can announce -
Donations total £120 and server costs total £130, so the best ever donation ratio for servers.
Well unfortunately i haven't had time since setting up with Nagash and Kronen to really do much due to work and Kronen has been busy elsewhere so huge thanks goes to Christhor for keeping the updates rolling.
The good news is at our peak we have got to 230 rank and bought in severa new people to the community we have spent almost 15 years developing/nursing and rebuilding over the years.
The bad news, well we currently have a time issue for coders doing updates on the server, real life is in the way once again so we have a couple of choices.
1. we run a standard Chernarus server
2. we run a standard map of some other type
3. we find someone we can trust who is willing to take on a huge job (average update takes over 6 hours to perform)
4. we shut the server down and move on - maybe to the new DayZ once its finished.
As ever this is a community so i am allowing a vote as the server lasts till 21st of May.
vote away and leave your comments
the future

Re: the future
if the server holds its own money wise i dont see why trying to find a coder isnt the best option other than shutting it down, is this news on the server so the regs can see it ?

Re: the future
Is there anything on the server that can be changed to reduce the update time required?
If I even had a chance to take on the burden I would.
It might be worth while seeing if there is someone else you can find to perform the updates, or even just assist with things.
Your main hurdle is giving someone new access to something big that could potentially break the server or drag the community down by making silly mistakes.
Tough choice!

Re: the future
Would be nice to keep the server going and update it.
It could improve the server ==> more people

Re: the future
Just updating can take most of a day even if you know what You are doing let alone adding more new stuff.
We do need help for the server if only due to the complexity.
We can't really keep the server if we can't get someone to help with it. Money/cost isn't an issue as we have funded way more expensive servers in the past without large donations.
Keeping an open mind to see how it goes atm

Re: the future
it is much easier than it looks and once you know how to do one thing you generally know the basics for doing all the other bits... just takes the dedication to stick with it if you come across something difficult

Re: the future
If its a matter of finding someone to maybe take the reins so be it, I don't play the game however I know it has brought in new people who enjoy the server and bring friends along.
For this i will not step up for server side I havnt got a clue and dont have the time in the day to make it work.
Maybe looking at people and trialling....or all admins for the server pitch in and help I dont know.

Re: the future
If I can help in any way, I'm willing. I've got some time on my hands now, but its going to get less and less as I move towards starting a new job in about 6 weeks.

Re: the future
Robvdheijden has now taken over the development and management of the server so renewed again and please be a little patient as Rob gets up to speed and looks into more stuff to make the server more interesting.
Cheers Rob btw for taking over and a big thanks to Chris, Kroenen and Nagash for getting us this far
