With regard to promotion... We can promote anything at the top of the forums, in tbe forums, on tbe website, Twitter, Facebook, Steam, etc.
There are options to create a basic league page for anything popular enough for one.
We could create an events page so if an admin creates an event, people can sign up to it to give an idea of numbers on the day.

Re: Event ideas
in the arma files there is actually some dummy targets for ranged shooting. All it would take is an admin to place something like a shed where people have to shoot from within, and then the targets at various ranges. The targets are like metal sheets, so they fall over when hit.
Money-wise.... why not make some of the specific even a paid for thing. I dunno values and such but just for example sake, say an even costs 1 gold to enter, prize can then be 50% of the takings, so if 10 people enter, winner gets 5 gold.... or winner gets 4 and runner up gets 1 back. Obviously 1 gold is low however ramp that up to something stupidly high then it gives a reason for people to spend high values.... if people can't afford to enter the event then it makes people WANT to enter, and HOPEFULLY it'll create a demand for lower end events for poorer people.
Some events that may be good is to setup a gambling system... if someone doesn't want to enter the event they could still place a bet on the contestants.... pay X amount and if your guy wins you win double, with a cap on the betting fee, like say 50% of the entrance fee is the maximum bet... paid up front obviously. If it's less than the entrance fee then you can't really throw the race since the person entering the event is always paying more than the person betting... if the person entering the race throws the race, they will always lose more than they could be paid off
.
Also if you added betting to each event, at least it gives people the opportunity to get involved without actually being there

Re: Event ideas
Welp...there's been plenty of event ideas in here so far and I'm sure there's plenty in people's heads too, but little has transpired in game recently on this front unfortunately. Additionally, Community Admins seem to put a strong case together on how great they'd be for the place and then seemingly either loose interest quickly and drift away or not keep others up to date on what their up to at all.
The lack of events also appears to be having a knock on effect in regards to some of the regular players we've seen over the past few months. While I'm sure some are simply busy with other things, some do seem to have lost their appetite somewhat and are actively trying out other servers at the moment. This will always happen of course but truth be told, it's way too quiet on the server at the moment I feel.
So to try and stem the flow and keep things more active, upbeat and indeed get something set up that should be self-sustaining...how about appointing a Head Community Admin?
They'd be in charge of all the other Community Admins (not any Super Admins or Management) and the appointment of their team unless 'the management' had any major reservations of course. A weekly meeting of the team could be organised by him or her to bash out ideas and events and they'd be responsible for putting up a schedule on here for all to see ahead of time too. They'd keep 'the management' up to date on any matters arising in game and could initially be charged with getting the server rules up to date and posted for all to see on here too, as I don't think there is one. Maybe giving them Moderator rights on here might help them in the role for this and then other ideas could be thrown their way too possibly.
They'd be responsible for making sure that anything in the event schedule was covered by one or more from their team and that they were all singing from the same hymn sheet in regards to what's acceptable in game and what isn't - maybe they could draw up some Admin rules while they're at it. They could also make sure that all existing Community Admins are actually in game a reasonable amount of time and are actually doing the role they so wanted in the first place etc.
All in all I feel this would help keep things more vibrant in game, take some of the work away from the super admins / management and keep things active and in place ahead of any additional servers planned (ArmA 3) that will need covering.
* No, I'm not after the position. I'm just trying to be a little proactive and offer up some ideas as I don't want to see the place wilt at all.
Thoughts?

Re: Event ideas
Sorry as i said, i am in the final 2 weeks of launching 3 new government websites and life is really stupid atm so not really been around.
It is all a great idea and i think at least Rey, strimmer and prad would be up for it but yes you are the best person for the job!
I think Kroe and myself are a little burned out with all the development we have been doing to get the epoch server to a working version and we kind of laid low a little (especially considering the A3 Epoch server ideas which sped into reality really fast).
I will offer up as much support as i can for these endeavours and ofc once the websites are finally gone (1st March) i will have some time to do other things if we require some extra code in the server as i will be using some holiday in March so could have a little time.
All sounds like a plan to me so if you are up for it then Frankie take it away!

Re: Event ideas
You've got nothing to be sorry for Ned!
I'd hope that this idea will help keep things moving forward and help to make the servers a place both old and new players will constantly want to come back to...and drag a few other people into the idea that an offer to help in some way here will help the whole community and themselves as a consequence.
Now, while I'd never rule out doing a role such as this myself, I'm not going to tread on any toes here especially when I and the management here feel that the right person is amongst the community admins already. Ok, it'll need a little work initially to get things in place and you'll likely need to use a little diplomacy and the occasional one to one chat to keep things on track from time to time. But from my limited time here so far I can pretty much guarantee you that you'll soon feel a much bigger part of the place, that you'll be listened to, you'll be valued as a real person and that you'll genuinely help push CiC onwards and upwards.
Who knows - you may be a perfect fit for the role without even realising it. Don't worry about failing either - everyone's done that (me a lot more than most of you I'll wager lol) but everyone's bigger and better for it. Just step up to the plate and give it a try is all that's being asked here...

Re: Event ideas
Once the appointment is made, any website requirements will need to be made to me / Ned asap so we can get it in place.
I don't care who gets the role as long as they can make a good cuppa!
