omfg!

seriously, omfg!!

i just decided to check out this section and i noticed you are all answering an advertising bot. quite funny tbh that no one actually noticed this but personally i'd have thought the link to the free laptop giveaway would be the main um, give away. :D

tbh though, i wasn't 100% sure but i've seen usernames and posts in the same format before, but it tipped the balance when no one seemed to know him/her/it :D. i think if someone does an ip check on anna.olv and checks out the hostmask, it will probably give it more away

It's because we don't click links other people post Nagash, for a reason.

but don't see what difference that makes to knowing it's a bot or not and linking to a dodgey page.

the link goes to a .co.uk page without anything else in the link, like the stuff that would take you to product information or competition address. thats like telling you to go to amamzon.co.uk to find the info about some book your interested in.

but yeah, to see where any link goes, you don't actually need to click on it, just mouse over it to see the url link at the bottom left corner (in most browsers anyway) or right click and select properties to see where it wants to take you.

but anyway, could have been done by a real person, like i say, i'm not 100% sure it's a bot, but i am 99.9% sure :D. either way, if it's a real person, you should ban em for making an account to advertise, but security to stop bots getting in, there's no such thing as enough security to stop them getting in. it's the same as virus's. there's always someone working to beat the security someone has setup. only a few ways to truely stop them and one is to ban all search engine bots, which is almost impossible to do plus it'll remove you from all search engines, which defeats the point of a community clan. the best way is to have a passworded forums, or you can't see the forums unless your an approved person on a userlist, both of which shouldn't be done cos we need ppl to have a way of leaving messages for us if need be.

the only 100% to stop a forum bot or advertisement spammer is to not have a forum at all, and well, thats out of the question tbh ;)

anywayz, i'm not complaining about anything, i just found it amusing is all :D. you guys are only trying to find excuses as to why you replied to it :D

i know what your saying but you'd be surprised by how many can bypass that process by bugs in forums and xss stuff (cross site scripting). forum creators often release updates to do with stuff like that. i recall all this kinda stuff from doing my own forum and if i didn't apply updates now and again, it would get infested with bots and such.

Many forums do that question thing and bots can be programed with correct responses which look for keywords. like with your example it'll probably look for "days" and "year" and match that up to a list of possible answers. many times it'll fail to make an account, but now and again it'll get one through. the fact that only this one has slipped the net shows how well the system is working for us, but now and again, one will get through. I used to use a combination of things, like making it a requirement to select if your male or female via a click on a radio button, and question thing as well, but there are some types of bots where someone will go to your registration page and just look at what it takes to signup once, program it into the bot, and the bots signup every now and again

in summary, there's always somebody trying to annoy people who are just trying to mind their own business
