i don't think the customising of room names in mumble will work until there are more that use the lobby. Would also would best in an MMO type environment as an MMO is not just a case of opening up the game and playing it, you can have several groups of people doing vastly different things. As the lobby stands, you might get people playing a few different games, but it's usually 1-2 groups of 2-3, which until people start talking over each other, it doesn't make sense to send them to different channels etc. if it were 3-4 groups of 4+ then other channels make more sense, if it makes it easier to picture, imagine shoving the core team into the lobby during a match, it would become chaos.

When giving the rooms a more customised touch, it'll be better to customise based on leadership of the game area it relates to, eg "Kop's Gay Core Channel" ;). Naming after a person though can have a bad effect though, because some may feel they aren't allowed in without that person being in there.

With GW2 i don't really have a main goal yet. I have scattered plans but nothing to committ on. This is purely because the game is still beta and I'm still trying stuff. I really need to wait and see...

a) what i like to do best
b) what is a popular/unpopular game feature

I do know that Arena Net are pushing esport features when the games released, so i'm also gonna wait until they've said more about that. If i'm undecided by the time it releases, i'll just make it a PvE guild to start with, that covers so much stuff and helps to get an initial base of players.

I do know it has features that let you make custom ranks within a guild, which i'll likely use to full effect. If possible i'd recruit a PvE Leader or few, WvW leader, Dungeons Leader... all names off the top of my head but you get the idea... and also easier said than done.

For an out of game way to advertise the clan, any forum modifications that have been made could be packaged up and released on the phpBB site/s. it would just get the forums name out there for people to see.

i will be looking at more ways to hook all of our outlets (web, forums, fb, twitter, mumble etc) into auto feeds from whatever i can find. I have already started integrating almost all systems to talk or at least listen to each other.
At this point i am focusing on community only and how it supports and promotes the games we play and with this means we have to have functionality with everything we use.
new website has much more room to grow than ever before and i am testing all the steam integrated things, rss feeds form all over the place, twitter posting to web, web posting to twitter, steam posting to twitter so going on the web etc. i need to also start looking at how to integrate more into stats of different games, i need to look more into API's like google stuff and steam and other game platform tools.

For me there is almost too many things i could do, too many resources to play with and test, and too much to do in the time i have available.

i hope at least you have seen recently a much improved look and feel to forums, the emergence of a new website made by CiC and for CiC with infinite possibilities, more activity on the forums and 4x more people visiting us per day than anytime in the last 6-9 months and steam/fb/twitter getting a message out there more regularly and in a non spamming kind of way.

So ideas welcome, solutions really welcome, help always welcome and participation in stuff a must.

Looking forward to it.

In regards to championing games, I'm totally gay for Blizzard. Right now Diablo is going to be my game, although in the future if someone comes along that does like SC2, I'm more than happy to go with that too; I just would never go outright with both at the same time because SC2 takes up more time than WoW if you get in to it :) lol.

chrome seemed to save my post when i clicked back after it restored my seesion after comp crashed :D so here's what i tried to post...

you would need to write some kind of forum mod for this, and so it could be something you could release to the public, but basically my idea is to make a proper Last Reply Wins Game. This would involve making a system that could generate a thread with a random date that would end it, with the end being a post that announces who has won the thread... if released as a mod, give it an optional "lock thread when game ends" thing in the ACP. In the ACP also set a random time frame when the game ends. For example, "Minimum Thread Time" would be the time that the thread can't end, and you could set a number value, with drop down menu to set days/weeks/months, then also have a "Random End Time" that you set, which would also be days/weeks/months that you set.

Example...
Minimum Thread Time = 2 months
Random End Time = 1 week

With these settings, after the thread has been active for 2 month, a random date within an extra 1 week is chosen for the thread to end. This time/date can't be seen, and so people will need to keep posting as often as possible otherwise the thread might end and they'll lose.

Thread should also be sticky but is made unsticky when the winner is announced by the forum, and then maybe the thread title is changed so that is prefixed with something like "END:", also thread names could be numbered, like "Last Reply Wins 6", and maybe have an option for roman numerals.

When the game ends, it could also add to the posters user profile saying that they won, maybe with trophy icon's. Maybe also have trophy icons appear above where your post count is when your posting, as this would be a bragging rights type thing, as eventually people can gather loads of trophies from it

In the end it would just be an advanced version of the game, but it would make it somewhat competitive as there would be a final target for people to aim for. Like i've said previously as well, you could also release this as a mod and make it so it brands posts with a cic link, and i'm sure people would add this to their own forums, since it's something that would encourage activity and wouldn't really require any maintenance after it's up and running
