you need the actual disks to play it thou... i figure there might be a way to copy the disks and the game will think you have the real disks and you can play swgemu. might look into this again. i think i chucked my disks away when i moved house thinking i'll never need again . there might be a torrent somewhere for them as well, but if you have the disks, thats an option
might be worth making a cic server etc, but i'll look into this again eventually to see if we can do anything.
yeah but when swgemu started, SWG was still in full swing, but now the servers are closed down and you can't get the files. there might be somewhere to download all the files but like i say, it'll take some looking into as it's likely on a torrent somewhere
they might have changed it but while the proper servers were online the swgemu site didn't give anything away and said to use proper disks, it was their legal requirement for doing what they were doing, or they would have been shut down. Now SWG has stopped they might have allowed them to put files up. Not been on their site in months thou.
I only played (when alive) the NGE version and liked it very much.
Admittedly they pushed the engine way to hard that made it buggy, but still fun.
Recently I have bought the original CD's and logged in to SWG Emu (pre-nge) and Project SWG (NGE).
SWG Emu seems to be almost there (from what I have heard it was like) but I don't really like the engine,
the fighting seems a predetermined string of button pressing, which feels very remote.
Project SWG is miles away from being a running game.
I can see both sides of the argument - Pre-NGE has a longer and more meaningful leveling system with more complicated crafting
but (for me) has no quests or storyline.
there were quests and instances but nah, was a sandbox game so no storyline, the tag line for the game was something like "make your own legend" or something more star warsy. combat was very mathematical, but remember, this game came out before WoW and the like. PvP wasn't great, but PvE was alright and mainly quest driven... mainly in the form of getting mob spawns.
They did do a few events too from time to time.
Can't remember what they called it Galactic Civil War or something. They would run for a week or so with a proper quest line / story arc.
Flowers or Cries from Alderaan was one of them I think...
They only did a few though, and they were fairly basic.
I used to like the sandbox nature of the game though.
Hunting parties on Dathomir for instance was great fun. The buff system changes wrecked a lot of it though, as you could end up solo'ing most stuff
